Up Syndrome

2000, NR, 82 min. Directed by Duane Graves. Starring Rene Moreno.

REVIEWED By Marjorie Baumgarten, Tue., March 19, 2002

Graves' locally produced documentary chronicles a year in the life of his charismatic childhood friend Rene Moreno, a San Antonio native with Down syndrome. The film, which takes an alternative approach toward an often over-sentimentalized subject, has shown and won awards at various film festivals including Slamdance and the Austin Film Festival.
