Coal Miner's Daughter
1980, PG, 125 min. Directed by Michael Apted. Starring Sissy Spacek, Tommy Lee Jones, Beverly D'Angelo, Levon Helm.
REVIEWED By Marjorie Baumgarten, Fri., July 20, 2001
Wonderful performances (Spacek won on Oscar) anchor this biopic of country star Loretta Lynn's rise to fame. In a time before the TV music channels made star biographies into such a formulaic joke, Coal Miner's Daughter was the real deal.
