Texas Filmmakers' Production Fund Panelist Screening #2 2002
NR, 124 min. Directed by Phillip Glau, Greta Snider.
REVIEWED By Marjorie Baumgarten, Tue., Aug. 13, 2002
Experimental documentarian Greta Snider works with a wide variety of materials and in a wide variety of styles. Three of her films will be screening: "Our Gay Brothers" (1993); "Urine Man" (2000); and "The Magic of Radio" (2001), which explores the worlds of pirate and amateur radio and includes interviews with the bicycle pirate, Free Radio Austin, and Robert K6QXY. Phillip Glau's Circus Redickuless (1997, 87 min.) delightfully documents this particular punk circus of the damned and its road travails with its notorious impresario Chicken John. Imagine a world of Fellini clowns all on angel dust. (The Panelist Screenings are two evenings of films presented by the visiting panelists for the Texas Filmmakers' Production Fund, who are presently in town to select the winners of this year's awards. This year's panelists include filmmakers Sarah Jacobson, Zack Stratis, Greta Snider, and Phillip Glau. The Sunday night program features work by Jacobson and Stratis and takes place at the Alamo Theater Downtown. The Monday night program includes work by Snider and Glau and takes place at the Dobie Theatre. Each screening will be followed by Q&As with the directors.)
