Chinese Torture Chamber Story

NR, 88 min. Directed by Bosco Lam. Starring Ching Mai, Lawrence Ng Kai-Wah, Yvonne Yung Hung.

REVIEWED By Marjorie Baumgarten, Wed., Nov. 29, 2000

This Hong Kong export promises a very weird mixture of sadomasochistic torture, humor, and eroticism. A maid and her master are arrested after the penis of the maid's husband literally explodes upon being given too much aphrodisiac by his wife. A number of ancient tortures are inflicted upon the pair, and other nature spirits have sex all day long as they fly through the trees. Self-consciously aware of excess, Chinese Torture Chamber Story sounds like it dares you to either laugh or cry.
