Rooster Teeth's RTX Fan Convention Returns in July

By Richard Whittaker, January 26, 2022, 10:25am, Picture in Picture

RWBY and Red vs. Blue fans, rejoice. Tickets have gone on-sale for RTX, the annual convention for Austin's Rooster Teeth. The celebration of the streaming phenomenon will return, July 1-3, as an in-person event at the Austin Convention Center and the Fairmont Austin.

Founded in 2003, Rooster Teeth was been a pioneer in online streaming video with its breakout series Red vs. Blue, but has grown into a massive family of podcasts and animated and live-action series (learn more about their growth here). In the process, the team developed a massive and loyal fanbase, and launched RTX in 2011 as a gathering for those devotees. Between that first event and the last in-person RTX, it went from attracting 500 people to over 62,000 over a long weekend. Now it's back, July 1-3 (plus the preview-packed First Night on June 30), for RTX and its accompanying spin-offs, the seventh RTX Animation Festival and fourth RTX Podcast Festival.

The in-person return comes after a two-year hiatus due to (you guessed it) COVID-19. In the early days of the pandemic, Rooster Teeth initially planned to push RTX 2020 back from July to September, before being forced to cancel the in-person event in June, before leaping online for RTX at Home, an 11-day streaming event to bring the community together. The event stayed online in 2021 for an extended RTX at Home, complete with an animation festival. Now it's back in-person, with plans for panels, announcements, merch, and more.

Early bird tickets are available to the public now through 10am, Feb. 14 (so the perfect Valentine's gift for that certain gen:Lock-lover in your life), after which regular rates will kick in. And, if you can't make it, or aren't comfortable with an in-person event, there will be a streaming component.
