ATX Meets The West Wing

It’s been 10 years since President Jed Bartlet left office, but for those that miss the golden area of American political drama on TV, good news from the ATX Television Festival: The cast and crew are reuniting to talk behind the scenes of the behind-the-scenes must-see.

The panel reunites the brains behind the Bartlet administration series creator/executive producer Aaron Sorkin and director/executive producer Thomas Schlamme, plus some of the greatest minds from the kitchen cabinet: Deputy Chief of Staff Josh Lyman (Bradley Whitford), presidential personal aide Charlie Young (Dule Hill), Deputy White House Communications Director Will Bailey (Joshua Malina), Josh’s senior assistant Donna Moss (Janel Moloney), and communications director and king of the scathing put-down Toby Ziegler (Richard Schiff.)

Also added to the must-see list:

• The opening night screening of Queen of the South, USA Network’s adaptation of Arturo Pérez-Reverte’s La Reina Del Sur.

• A screening of Superstore, complete with a panel featuring star/producer America Ferrera, plus cast members Ben Feldman, Lauren Ash, Colton Dunn, Nico Santos, and Nichole Bloom, and creator/executive producer Justin Spitzer.

• The premiere of the season three opener for Starz’ Survivor’s Remorse with creator Mike O’Malley and director Ali LeRoi, and stars RonReaco Lee, Jessie Usher, and Teyonah Parris.

• A reunion for the breakthrough post-9/11 drama Rescue Me, with Denis Leary (also bringing Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll to Austin), with series co-creator Peter Tolan, and stars Callie Thorne, Andrea Roth, Michael Lombardi, James McCaffrey, Lenny Clarke, and Larenz Tate.

• Tolan and Peter Mattei talking about season two of their WGN drama Outsiders (See "Appalachian Blues," Jan. 22)

• A panel on AT&T Audience’s new show Kingdom with creator/executive producer Byron Balasco and cast members Jonathan Tucker, Joanna Going, and Matt Lauria.

• Alia Shawkat bringing her new TBS dark comedy Search Party back for another screening after its SXSW debut.

The fest already announced its first round of programming, with panels and guests from The O.C., The Wire, The Shield, Sons of Anarchy, Jane the Virgin, and a fifth anniversary of the finale/tenth anniversary of the pilot celebration of Friday Night Lights.
