Fun Fun Fun Fest Lineup Revealed

Transmission Events tore the top off its black, blue, and orange box of Fun Fun Fun minutes ago, revealing the bulk of the lineup for its trademark November festival, now in its eighth year.

The current, 86-act lineup hosts wild surprises, including vintage proto-punks Television and Sparks, rapper/Law & Order maintstay Ice-T (leaked last month), and local recluse Bill Callahan, revealed today to be heading up a two-month North American tour beginning in September, plus repeat headliners Slayer and MGMT, and one Snoop Lion (née Dogg).

Also on the docket, indie rock luminaries such as Sonic Youth’s forever young Thurston Moore (Chelsea Light Moving), Bikini Kill’s Kathleen Hanna (the Julie Ruin), and Flag, the Keith Morris-fronted faction of Black Flag, whose split we’ve discussed before.

This year’s lineup maintains a reverence for repeat acts. Aside from Slayer and MGMT, returning FFFF alums include Deerhunter, King Khan & the Shrines – rather than Mark “BBQ Show” Sultan in 2009 at original FFF site Waterloo Park – NOLA bounce queen Big Freedia (2010/2011), Delorean (2010), local rapper Phranchyze (2008), Thee Oh Sees, and Japanese thrashers Melt-Banana (2009).

Those looking for locals will find Transmission has stocked its Fest with acts that satisfy just as many genres, notably 20-year-old ska punk institution the Impossibles – reunited to some degree in 2012 – Daniel Johnston, recent Chronicle cover boy David Wingo via his group Ola Podrida, Frank Smith, Wild Child, rapper Kydd Jones and his LNS Crew, DJ Roger Sellers, and post-punk threepiece Spray Paint.

The lineup’s sorted out below by stage. Missing from this evening’s announcement are acts associated with the Yellow comedy stage and the myriad skaters, bikers, and hooligans showcasing their aerial skills at the half pipe and skate complex. Those names arrive on August 3 at Transmission’s fabled Aqua Olympics.

Tickets go on sale Wednesday at 10am. Until then, here’s a reminder that the Yellow Stage was the venue in which Henry Rollins married two individuals who met one year at this fun, fun, fun festival.
