Dog & Duck Pub Closes

By Jessi Cape, November 8, 2017, 5:22pm, On the Range

On Thursday, Nov. 2, the Dog & Duck Pub staff found the doors locked, with a posted letter citing nonpayment of rent. The letter alleges the business owners owe more than $30,000 in "delinquent rent [and] other charges." The Facebook page has been deactivated, and at this time, there are no plans to reopen.

This development marks the second time the beloved bar – known for its large selection of draft beers and English fare – was forced to close its doors. In 2014, campus area construction prompted a move to the Webberville location, which reopened in late 2015. “From 1990 to 2014, the original Dog & Duck Pub welcomed innumerable regulars and out-of-towners alike. It was a shock when owners Jeff McKillop and Susan Forrester were forced to vacate late last year. The relocation may not have been their choice, but they are embracing the future while honoring the past with a new location at 2400 Webberville,” wrote Katherine McNevins in an article offering a first look of the revamped bar.

Social media posts from both staff and dedicated patrons lament the shuttering. The Chronicle has reached out for comment.

Updated Nov. 8:

"Statement from some longtime employees to the community:

"It's really sad and everyone's pretty upset. Thinking about how we physically took the old one apart and put it back together is heartbreaking. It's been almost exactly three years since we said goodbye to the old one and we were just coming up on the new location's second anniversary.

"We want to thank everyone who believed in it, who stopped by once, or was there every day. We have truly loved serving you all these years and will miss this place and all of you. We hope you have as many cherished memories of this place as we do."
