The Austin Aztex finish their four-game homestand Saturday night, May 9, hosting Real Monarchs SLC at 8pm at House Park, 13th & Lamar. Doors open at 6:30, with a special performance by the Peterson Brothers Band, and food this week by Chef's Rolling Roadshow, Load a Bowl, and Rosarito. It'll be the Aztex's sixth home game, in their first eight games in USL play.
Salt Lake City is coming off their first win of the season, a shutout defeat of defending champion Sacramento. The Aztex are coming off a 2-2 draw with Oklahoma City last Friday. The game started with Aztex forward Kris Tyrpak creating a goal at either end, in the space of about three minutes: a bad turnover leading to an OKC breakaway, then a gorgeous chipped-through ball to put Drew Yates in behind the defense. Another Yates goal just five minutes later – a header off a long throw-in by Kyle Hoffer – looked like it would hold up for the win, until OKC got an equalizer with just three minutes to play. In the end, 2-2 was probably a fair result; the final stats showed the Aztex getting outshot, 14-7, but scoring on their only two shots on goal in the entire game. The teams will meet twice more this season, both times up in Oklahoma... Shortly before the game, the Aztex announced that they've received a second player on loan from MLS affiliate Columbus Crew SC: 6'7" forward Adam Bedell joins defender Kalen Ryden, who's played every minute of the season thus far for the Aztex...
