Bayern Munich finished up their breakthrough year by winning the Club World Cup Saturday in Marrakech, adding the world championship to their European and German league titles, plus German Cup and UEFA Super Cup trophies.

As we go to press on Boxing Day, Dec. 26, the English Premier League is playing their traditional full slate of games; pretty much everyone else in the world is taking their mid-winter break; and defending PDL champions the Austin Aztex are preparing for their first tryouts for the 2014 season, being held Jan. 4-5 at Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex in Round Rock. Happy holidays, and see you in the new year.
