A couple 7v7 coed tourneys on the horizon, and more

The deadline is approaching to register for the Workers Defense Proj­ect's first annual soccer tournament: Copa Justicia Laboral! – a 7v7 coed friendly tournament with all teams playing at least three games on Saturday-Sunday, March 31-April 1, at UT-Austin's Whitaker Fields, 51st & Guadalupe. Sunday's championship games will be held at 5604 Manor, followed by free barbecue for all participants. $25 per individual, $250 per team of 10-12 people; proceeds go to WDP's Computer Literacy Course, directly benefiting Austin's low-wage workers. Register by Friday, March 23, at www.workersdefense.org.

If you miss that one, mark your calendars for another 7v7 coed tourney coming up: The Copa Esperanza, benefiting Villa Esperanza and Casa Marianella, is rescheduled for Saturday, June 2 at Onion Creek Soccer Complex. www.villa-esperanza.org.

Champions League quarterfinals start next Tuesday-Wednesday, March 27-28 (all games live on Fox networks at 1:45pm), headlining a busy international schedule... Still time to register for the Austin Aztex's final tryouts Saturday, April 7; download a registration form at www.austinaztex.com... And of course, the Flip Cup is Saturday.
