The University of Texas softball team has earned a No. 3 seed in the 2011 NCAA Champ­ionships and will host Texas State (33-23), Houston (40-16), and Louisiana-Lafa­yette (49-9) at lovely McCombs Field. UT’s first game will be Friday at 6:30pm against the Texas State Bobcats who earned their bid by winning the Southland Confer­ence tourney. Coach Connie Clark‘s squad has been led to their seventh straight NCAA appearance by sophomore pitching ace Blaire Luna (27 wins, 294 strikeouts, 1.31 ERA), freshman pitcher Rachel Fox (18 wins, 120 strikeouts, 1.10 ERA), junior shortstop Alexis Bennett (.455 batting, 1.356 OPS, nine home runs), and senior catcher Amy Hooks, just named Big 12 Player of the Year. Get your tickets now before they sell out; it’s perfect weather for a weekend camped out at McCombs rooting the Longhorns to victory.

Friday, May 20: Louisiana-Lafayette vs. Houston, 4pm; Texas vs. Texas State, 6:30pm.

Saturday, May 21: First day’s winners, 1pm; first day’s losers, 3:30pm; winner game 4 vs. loser game 3, 6pm.

Sunday, May 22: Game 3 & 5 winners, 1pm; rematch (if necessary) 35 minutes afterward.
