UT Baseball
Pitcher Taylor Jungmann has been practically unhittable
Fri., March 4, 2011
While the Horns are off to a so-so 5-3 start which includes losses to all three teams they've faced to date – Maryland, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (?!), and Hawaii – starting pitcher Taylor Jungmann is on fire. His performance through his first two outings was about as impressive as can be, save throwing two perfect games. Jungmann pitched his first ever complete-game shutout in the Horns season opener, beating the Maryland Terrapins 8-0, and followed that with his second career complete-game shutout against the Hawaii Rainbows, leading UT to a 2-0 victory. The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association named Jungmann the Pro-Line Athletic National Pitcher of the Week for his performance against the Terrapins. His numbers through two games are crazy – a 2-0 win-loss record; 0.00 ERA; nine hits (all singles), one walk, and 18 strikeouts through 18 innings; with opponents batting a mere .184 against him. The Horns and Jungmann face their toughest challenge yet in the new season as the No. 9 Stanford Cardinal visits the Disch this weekend. Vs. Stanford: Fri., March 4, 3pm; Sat., March 5, 2pm; Sun., March 6, 1pm. Vs. UT-San Antonio: Tue., March 8, 6pm. UFCU Disch-Falk Field, 1300 E. MLK Blvd. $12, reserved; $7, adults; $5, youth. www.texassports.com.
