Spirit of the Wolfe: Brawl in the Hall
Eight-time world champ Ann Wolfe tops the card
By Mark Fagan, Fri., March 5, 2010
Ann "Brown Sugar" Wolfe is a legend. She's an eight-time world champion boxer who in 2004 became the first fighter ever to hold four titles in four separate weight classes at the same time, was featured on HBO's Real Sports program, and is a straight-up badass. Don't believe me? Check out the pics on her website. Wolfe has spent the last decade training kids from challenging backgrounds (including promising pro James Kirkland who was arrested and jailed in 2009 right before he was to be featured on a high-profile card – a staggering blow for both Kirkland and Wolfe). The Brawl in the Hall is a great opportunity to catch Wolfe's amateur boxers in action early in their careers. In addition to Wolfe's up-and-coming pugilists, the legend herself will be making a rare appearance in the ring facing Tammy "The Chosen One" Franks in the main event, and pro boxers Kurtiss "The Beast" Colvin and Jawnta "K-9" Mason are also featured on the card. Sat., March 6, 4:30pm (doors). Austin Music Hall, 208 Nueces. $32, $57, $107. www.annwolfe.org, www.austinmusichall.com.
