Liverpool languishes in England

The European Champions League semifinals feature a couple of intriguing matchups next midweek – the two top teams on the continent this year, hosting a couple of attractive underdogs who've played very well in getting here. First it's Dutch champs PSV Eindhoven at AC Milan, Tuesday, April 26, 1:30pm, ESPN2. The next day it's all England: Liverpool at Chelsea, Wednesday, April 27, 1:30pm, ESPN2. The return legs follow a week later, May 3-4.

Meanwhile, of course, these clubs are coming down to the stretch runs in their respective leagues as well, and playing key games every three or four days as the season nears its May climax. PSV and Chelsea, along with Lyon in France, have all but wrapped up their respective titles, AC Milan is deadlocked with Juventus atop Italy, and Barcelona and Bayern Munich lead in Spain and Germany, respectively. (Liverpool, meanwhile, is languishing in sixth place in England, and may need to lift the Champions League title to even qualify for European play next year.)
