Berenice, who has been facially scarred by the fire that also took her husband’s life, moves in with her money-lending godmother in a provincial Mexican town. The two only leave the house on Sundays to go to church and the movies. Then Berenice meets a young doctor who is aroused by her scars and who awakens her dormant emotions. Ultimately, this path leads to her self-emancipation.
