Kevin Smith swears you’re going to wet yourself.
Kevin Smith has, for now at least, decided to forgo directing for other ventures – there’s his SModcast Network, new Hulu crowd-source-critic show Spoilers With Kevin Smith, and commitment to producing other people’s films. To that (last) end there’s the first-ever Smodcast Pictures, Bindlestiffs, which happens to be the super-raunchy, shoestring-budgeted product of some exceedingly young Austin transplants, Andrew Edison and Luke Loftin. Bindlestiffs won the Audience Choice Award at Slamdance 2012 and is now touring the country. Smith and wunderkinds Edison and Loftin will present the film June 18 at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar. Get a clue: Writer/director Amy Heckerling will take the stage at New Movement this Saturday, June 9, to share some dirt about her career, which includes Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Clueless, and Vamps, which reunites her with Alicia Silverstone and will be released by Anchor Bay this fall. Heckerling will also be in attendance at a Saturday afternoon screening of Clueless at the Paramount.

Whether you think social media has made dating easier or just stalkier, it’s certainly impacted how we woo now. That’s the subject of Ericka Marsalis-LaManna‘s feature comedy Generation Me, which was just awarded a Grand Jury Prize by the Amsterdam Film Festival. Generation Me shows next at the San Francisco Black Film Festival on June 16 and the San Antonio Film Festival on June 24; see tomorrow’s issue for an interview with the filmmaker.

The Austin Film Festival will present the Austin premiere of Andrew Bird: Fever Year, the concert doc that chronicles a year of nonstop touring, riddled with injury and unshakeable fever, for the singer/songwriter/stringmachine behind & the Mysterious Production of Eggs, Armchair Apocrypha, and this spring’s Break It Yourself. Director Xan Aranda will be in attendance at the June 25 & 26 shows at the Alamo Drafhouse; Bird’s next Austin layover will be at this October’s ACL Fest.
