Slacker 2011 may have been put together by a new generation of Austin film talent, but the original Slacker's helmer Richard Linklater took time at last week's premiere at the Paramount to acknowledge – and party down with – members from the original cast, pictured here. The prolific writer/director had some news of his own to share last week: Besides an anticipated fall release of his latest film, Bernie (starring Jack Black and Shirley MacLaine), the L.A. Times reports that Linklater just cast Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood) to star as a young Karl Rove in College Republicans, from Wes Jones' script. Production starts in Austin this November.
