In consecutive years, filmmaker Nicholas Ray hit his commercial peak with 1955's Rebel Without a Cause and (arguably) his artistic peak with 1956's Bigger Than Life. But he continued making movies – or, in some cases, trying to make movies – for another 25 years, and the Harry Ransom Center has the goods on all of 'em. In a major acquisition announced today, the HRC will provide a home to Ray's voluminous archives, including scripts, storyboards, personal correspondence, photographs, and teaching materials. See next week's Chronicle for a closer look at the holdings.
