Spotlight Premieres
D: David Dworsky and Victor Köhler

Hand-wringing about the pervasiveness of digital media and how it changes the way our brains work is not the focus of this Swedish documentary. Nor is the death knell of established entertainment-business models by creative upstarts who work outside those models. Instead, the filmmakers sought and achieve a more thoughtful, forward-thinking look at how digital culture inspires artistic innovation. Of particular interest is how once unavailable or costly media-making tools have made it possible for nearly everyone to realize their artistic visions. Creatives from Moby, writer Seth Godin, filmmaker Lena Dunham, and many others weigh in on the subject, accompanied by some appealing, digitally created art throughout. While there is occasional concern that the democratization of access to digital tools may contribute to the proliferation of mediocre work, the overarching goal of PressPausePlay is to explore and celebrate the human drive to experience and create art.
