Questions, Prepares to Launch

Paramount screening, April 18

Having children changes everything. It certainly did for writer/actor Turk Pipkin, who turned his concerns about the world his two daughters will inherit into the deep-thinking documentary Nobelity. The premise is simple: what do Nobel laureates think about the world's biggest problems, and how can we leave political divides behind to solve those problems? Pipkin traveled the globe chasing down nine laureates (Steve Weinberg, who won the award in physics, was relatively easy to find at his home in Austin). He caught their ideas for the film on everything from global warming to nuclear bombs to land mines. The doc opened to large audiences at SXSW Film 06 and returns to the Paramount Theatre for an 8pm screening Tuesday, April 18, which will kick off its national release. Tickets for the screening are $10. A $25 ticket includes a 6:30pm reception featuring food by Amy's Ice Creams, Austin Catering, Cafe Caprice, Capitol Brasserie, Roaring Fork, Vivo, and Z'Tejas. The screening is co-sponsored by Austin Habitat for Humanity, Austin Area Interreligious Ministry, Physicians for Social Responsibility, and the Nobelity Project.

Tuesday, April 18, 8pm, Paramount Theatre. Admission: $10, $25.
