THUNDERSTUCK
D: Darren Ashton; with Stephen Curry, Damon Gameau, Sam Worthington, Ryan Johnson, Callun Mulvey
Narrative Feature Discoveries From Down Under
Imagine you live in a world where Bon Scott is God. You would live in Australia, obviously. You'd also be barreling through the desert in a van with your old bandmates to fulfill a pact upon your bass player's burial. Along the way, you'd get into fights in a nursing home bar ("Have a drink before you go!"), with an old Italian preacher ("I'll send you to hell with my bare hands!"), and with the number-two wheelchair rugby team in the country ("Shoulda been number one! Oi! Oi! Oi!"). In this world, people actually get laid at weddings, sheriffs leave cell doors open, and old gay men aren't hitting on you, they've just got hot, lonely daughters. It is the kind of world that will exist in the living rooms of fraternity houses for years to come, lines memorized and shouted at the TV while cans of Fosters clap in the air and foam is wiped from grinning mouths. And they will watch through the credits every time, and rejoice.Dobie, 7:15pm
