Dead and Loving It, or, Yeah, but What Has He Done for Us Lately? Dept.: If you're anything like the zombies at "Short Cuts," you've probably already had a super-happy-
fun-time-embolism over the recent Alamo Drafthouse Theatre's announcement regarding "the events of Saturday, July 24." For those of you who've been in Tuva recently and haven't heard the news, the Alamo's Rolling Roadshow – that being its giant, portable, inflat-o-screen o' doom – will be playing host to what may well be its most horrific (yet wonderful!) all-night film event yet, and for those of you who attended last year's Camp Hack 'n' Slash, that's saying something. Of course I'm talking about the Roadshow of the Living Dead, a round-the-clock orgy of Georgey – Romero, that is – and four of the Pittsburgh-based horror movie legend's finest hours, including Night of the Living Dead, Day of the Dead, Martin, and, in a very timely twist the given the recent and ongoing dread of bioweapons in the hands of the baddies (or the goodies, or, geez, whoever), The Crazies, one of Romero's best yet most overlooked films. And to top if it all off, Alamo owner Tim League has promised Dead! Nude! Girls! in a blood-spattered Jell-O cage match free-for-all, with the winner tearing the still-beating heart from some lucky audience raffle winner. Oh, no, wait – sorry, that last bit was a typo in the press release. What we meant to say is that Romero himself will be on hand to introduce his quartet of terror and Q&A with the audience post screenings. This one's gonna sell out, people, and tickets go on sale this Friday, June 11, 5pm. $20 gets you the works and a chance to meet the king, baby. More info at www.drafthouse.com.

Pennies From Heaven Dept.: The moneybags over at our beloved Texas Filmmakers' Production Fund will be holding an informational workshop Tuesday, June 15, 7pm, at Austin Studios (1901 E. 51st) to teach you – yes, you, you little aspiring film person, you – how best to line your woefully empty budgetary pockets with their shiny new coinage. There's $75,000 of it this year, and if you want a piece of the e pluribus pie, you've got to learn to write better grant proposals. ("Gimme Gimme Gimme" is a great Black Flag song, but a terrible way to ask for financial assistance from the TFPF.)
