Linux Top Gun

By Lindsey Simon, September 6, 2002, Screens

You can bet that a techno battle put together by local programming legend Paco Nathan and sponsored by ACC and Austin's coolest security firms (North Shore, Symbiot Security) will be attended by Austin's programming elite -- and a good number of innocent bystanders and students curious what makes these late-night tinkerers tick. The contest, happening Friday, Sept. 5, will pit teams in a round-robin-style attack and defense operation using the Apache Web server and the Linux operating system. Wireless laptops from one team will attempt to crack in while the defensive team will try to thwart them. Prizes include SXSW Interactive 2003 badges, course audit registration at ACC Continuing Education, and various gift certificates to local retail electronics stores. It gets even better: Mojo's will be serving up beer and coffee to fuel both contestants and crowd with liquid speedballs into the night/morning. The dogfight kicks off at 10pm at Mojo's Daily Grind (2714 Guadalupe). Want more? Call 477-6656 or visit www.linuxtopgun.org.
