That's why the national arthouse theatre chain is giving you stuff for free. (Okay, it might also have something to do with wanting your business.) All you have to do is mosey on over to their Web site (www.landmarktheatres.com) and sign up for their e-newsletter -- which sounds like a trap, I know, but really it just means they send you weekly updates on movies opening each week, plus showtimes at your nearby Landmark moviehouse (locally, that's the Dobie Theatre). Just for signing up, they'll send you a receipt, which you then take to the Dobie in exchange for a free CD, Landmark Music Vol. 3, which includes two tracks from Tom Waits, plus songs sampled in Y Tu Mamá También and Donnie Darko. Sounds like too much legwork? (Oh, limber up, it's not that taxing.) You can still get free stuff, sans all that pesky Internet surfing: The Dobie's now stocking Landmark's free publication, titled cunningly enough FLM (Film at Landmark), a quarterly listing of upcoming Landmark properties, plus reviews, profiles, and quirky features written by filmmakers and actors that tend to have very little to do with the projects they're supposedly plugging and more to do with whatever's on their mind, like Margaret Cho's memories of her deceased aunt, Lovely and Amazing director Nicole Holofcener's embarrassment over casting fat people specifically because they're fat, and The Chateau's Paul Rudd's too-cute ramblings on words that end in "eau."
