Flicker's Got Super-8 for a Super Dad

By Marc Savlov, June 14, 2002, Screens

"I didn't know it was a holiday," claims Flicker Austin über-madchen Cory Ryan. A likely story. Austin's celebrated bimonthly small-gauge film festival -- Super-8 and 16mm only, thanks -- is having its eighth incarnation on Father's Day (that's this Sunday, June 16), 7pm, at the Alamo Drafthouse Downtown (409 Colorado), which means you finally have something to give the man who already has it all -- except for that hovercraft, of course. No, not a tie, you nitwit -- an evening out in the company of Austin's finest short films and filmmakers. Five bucks gets you and the popster in the door where you'll be treated to a mind-warping barrage of funky little bits of Austin's filmic underbelly. (For specifics, see, or visit for more on Flicker Austin.) As always at the Alamo, come prepared to drink yourself silly, and don't forget to tip those dilated waitpeoples. Let the cavalcade of chiaroscuro commence!
