They're not necessarily the biggest. They're not even necessarily the best. Instead, these are the Web sites that made headlines and kept us logging on again and again.
1. Amazon (http://www.amazon.com). I haven't seen so many of my friends shopping in one place since I was in junior high.
2. Ask Jeeves (http://www.askjeeves.com). Cheaper than a research assistant -- and minus the attitude.
3. The Blair Witch Site (http://www.blair witch.com). If only the movie were as good as this intricately crafted site, so authentic it had thousands fooled.
4. eBay (http://www.ebay.com). The auction site wrought a new kind of addict: eBay junkies. Expect the book by Bret Easton Ellis.
5. Hollywood Stock Exchange (http://www.hsx.com). Finally, something that helps me understand the stock market!
6. ICQ (http://www.icq.com). The chat environment driving English teachers crazy one posting at a time.
7. iFilm (http://www.ifilm.com). Short films! Streaming audio and video! Even full-length features (like Doug Block's Home Page) before they run in the theatres. This is one to watch.
8. The Internet Movie Database (http://www.imdb.com). Answers the burning question: What was the name of that third Corey & Corey film again?
9. Priceline (http://www.priceline.com). In the words of Night Ranger: What's your price for flight?
10. Salon (http://www.salon.com). With strong writers and an impressive breadth and quality of daily content, it's worth reading every day.
