Everything old is new again ... or maybe it's just that pesky ol' time warp. Believe it or not, The Rocky Horror Picture Show marks its 23rd continuous year of midnight screenings here in Austin -- and you can bet your bottom dollar that the congregation will be celebrating. Generations of local fans have been dressing up and getting into the act for nigh on a quarter-century, and for a town that devotes days of celebration to the donkey Eeyore's birthday and the glorification of Spam™, the Rocky Horror anniversary is just one more reason to party. Mick Jagger said something about not wanting to see a 50-year-old man prancing around a rock & roll stage, and some of us might feel the same about a 50-year-old Dr. Frank N. Furter. But just remember that Mick was the first in line to break his promise. The film and festivities begin at midnight this Friday and Saturday, May 14 & 15, at the Wells Branch Discount Cinema. The Cinemaker Co-op is looking for a new logo and challenges all graphic designers, moonlighting artists, and aspiring cinemakers to create an image "that represents Cinemaker in all its Super-8, lo-fi, underground, grassroots, progressive glory." The logo should demonstrate the organization's "raw passion for filmmaking with a penchant for creative expression and a tendency toward experimentation. The logo will appear on all letterhead, posters, newsletters, bumperstickers, and temporary tattoos." The winning designer will receive a free membership to Cinemaker, a free filmmaking workshop, and public recognition. The deadline for entries is Friday, June 4. For more information, call 236-8877 or send e-mail to cinemkr@texas.net...
