Conduit Digital Film and Gaming Festival

March 5, 1999, Screens

Let the dealmakers have their IPOs -- the Doom Generation has the Conduit Festival. It's two days and nights of digital film, shorts, animation, computer game cinematics, and an exhibition of retro arcade games celebrating the convergence of digital technology and cinematography through code. The festival runs from Mar 14-15 in the middle of the SXSW Interactive Conference, so leave a little time between Convention Center panels and parties at GSD&M to see just a little bit of the future of cinema and gaming. Also, view my personal favorite from the Conduit gift gallery: Do Not Trust This Deer. Ben'll show you.

The screenings include three features and over 30 shorts, 14 of which will be world and U.S. premieres, including the recent Academy Award nominee "Bunny." Computer game cinematics and an exhibition of retro arcade games like Missile Command, Centipede, Pac Man, Defender, and ComputerSpace help set an odd tone for this year's festival. Digital TX night on Mon, Mar 15 will also spotlight Austin's own digital filmmakers, and there will be two late evening parties featuring a live performance by Seattle's Live Nude Girls and a screening of Res (Magazine) Fest's Cinema Electronica.
