New Austin Film Society (AFS) Managing Director Rebecca Campbell will present her multi-award winning PBS project "The Town that Jack Built," a poetic interface of the 1920s boom town and now official ghost town Picher, Okla., and the few remaining mining families and Quapaw Indians who still live there.
Award-winning documentarian Maria Teresa Rodriguez is coming in from Philadelphia with "From Here to There - De Aquí a Allá," an experimental collagist exploration of the stories behind her Colombian, Irish, and American roots. The search for these stories was provoked by her father's premature death.
Campbell and Rodriguez will be joined on the workshop panel to follow by moderator Anne del Castillo, AFS' new Artists' Services Director. Del Castillo has moved to Austin from Boston where she served as series coordinator for Frontline at the prestigious PBS affiliate WGBH. The workshop will concentrate primarily on exhibition options and how they should shape projects. All three women have had extensive experience and success in this arena (particularly with PBS), so the knowledge they have to share should prove invaluable. - Jerry Johnson
