Word got out that the burgers are divine, and soon we discovered a varied and plenty appetizer menu. Our mouths were too full of Parmesan fries to take it all in, but we know the Chicken-Fried Beef Tenderloin takes the sports bar menu to a new respectability. Never fear for thirst – the beer selection here is terrific.

The North Austin location of this Houston-bred UK pub chain boasts oceans of parking, an extensive pub grub menu, and 27 beers on tap. Besides the requisite armada of big screen TVs, dart boards, and Union Jack bric-a-brac, Sherlock’s features live music four nights a week. Eighties-centric cover bands rule the roster, with versatile outfits like Radiostar and Dysfunkshun Junkshun turning up frequently. A happy hour that runs until 9pm Monday through Saturday and all day Sunday cinches the deal. Austin Live Band Karaoke plays every Wednesday.
