Austin Justice Coalition and Capitol View Arts installed a multiblock mural reading "Black Artists Matter" on East 11th Street between Waller and Lydia streets on Thu., June 18. “In a city where the black population is overlooked, our purpose through this mural is to show continued support and acknowledgment of black artists and their contribution to Austin's legacy and character,” said Clifford Gillard, founder and president of Capitol View Arts, in a city press release.

Participants also painted murals at music venue Kenny Dorham's Backyard, which is located on the same stretch of East 11th Street. Austin Justice Coalition and Capitol View Arts chose the East 11th Street location for its historic legacy as the heart of Austin's Black Community, according to the press release.
