Tax troubles claim bookstore's LLC license

Happiness Has Got To Be Paid For

Brave New Books – that near-campus purveyor of all printed things conspiracy and right-wing activism – may have found itself in a spot of legal trouble. According to the office of the Texas Secretary of State, the store's LLC license has been forfeited thanks to an issue raised by the Texas Comptroller's Office. That means tax troubles. When reached by phone for comment, store owner Harlan Dietrich told the Chronicle that he'd heard nothing about the forfeiture. "That would surprise me," he said. The punch line? According to the kind folks who work for Secretary of State Hope Andrade, the license was forfeited in 2009. The store remains open.
