The GOP's last stronghold: While Barack Obama won every area of the county, in downballot races, the huge western section of Travis County had consistently higher Republican percentages, often double their percentages in other regions. In races from senator, down through sheriff and tax collector, almost half of the county's GOP vote came from the west.
Still, Democrats won the two big western Travis Co. races in each case by staying close in the far west and piling up big margins in the very liberal near-south precincts.

The Prop. 2 vote had no geographical clarity. It carried, by small margins, the south and southeast regions, which makes sense if you consider it a liberal issue. But it failed, by even smaller margins, in the equally liberal northeast and central regions. Have the central precincts ever been 50%-49% on anything?
