NEWS UPDATE: Court Releases Redistricting Map

More of Travis in Doggett’s district

A three-judge panel has released a redistricting map to comply with the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that declared Congressional District 23 unconstitutional. The new map puts more of Travis County in District 25 (currently represented by Austin’s Lloyd Doggett) and removes most the South Texas counties previously in Doggett’s district. All of the redrawn districts (15, 21, 23, 25, and 28) will have their March primary results thrown out and will have open special elections held on the same day as the general election, Nov. 7. Any election that does not produce a winner with more than 50% of the vote will have a run-off at a date to be determined later. Candidates must file with the Secretary of State’s office by Aug. 25.
