Austin-based peace advocates who can spare the day might consider driving up I-35 to Dallas tomorrow (Friday) for a peaceful picket outside a GOP fundraiser featuring Dubya himself. Sponsored by the North Texas Coalition for a Just Peace, the Dallas Peace Center (directed by state Rep. Lon Burnam, D-Fort Worth), and other groups, the picket takes place at 4pm outside the Wyndham Anatole Hotel, 2201 North Stemmons Freeway.

To help celebrate hometown-hero Lance Armstrong's try for a fifth Tour de France win, the July 26 installment of the downtown Farmers' Market will feature a wealth of two-wheeled activities. In addition to two guided tours of the 6-mile Lance Armstrong Bikeway, now in the planning stages at the city, local cycling organizations have planned a tour of the Shoal Creek Trail, a flat-tire repair clinic and safety/commuter workshop, Yellow Bike Project bike painting, and presentations by the Lance Armstrong Foundation and Friends of Lance Armstrong Bikeway. 8am-noon, Republic Square (Fourth and Guadalupe streets).

Texas Campaign for the Environment will host a town-hall meeting on computer recycling with special guest Jim Hightower tonight (Thursday), 6:30-8pm, at 1300 Lavaca. Also, the group will speak out at the Dell Annual Shareholder Meeting, Friday, July 18, 7:30am, at the Austin Convention Center. The Austin Campus Antiwar Network will sponsor a screening of The New Rulers of the World, a documentary by John Pilger, on Tuesday, July 22, 7pm, at the Texas Union Building (UT Campus, 24th & Guadalupe streets), in the Sinclair Suite (room 3.128).
