The (Second) Bush War has probably started by now. Turn to War Drums to see the latest rumblings and calls for action on the home front. To make sense of the week's White House news, read Aesop's fable of the wolf and the lamb (try www.aesopsfables.net). Even such good American girls as Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks have found out what "if you're not with us, you're against us" really means.

Quote of the Week: "Please go out and vote. Otherwise, our mayor might be that cross-dressing freak who hangs out on Sixth Street -- Marc Katz." -- Comedian Kerry Awn, at the Austin Music Awards.

Marc Katz lost his federal lawsuit to throw out Austin's $100 campaign contribution limit; see Austin@Large.

Turn out the lights, the filing's over for the May 3 City Council election, which will feature eight candidates for mayor, seven for the Place 5 seat being vacated by Will Wynn, two (including incumbent Danny Thomas) in Place 6, and four (including incumbent Raul Alvarez and El Concilio leader Gavino Fernandez) in Place 2.

Filing has also concluded, as of March 14, for new bills in the 78th Legislature, with 2,275 bills introduced in the Senate and 4,254 in the House. Trust us. Some of them are really stupid.
