Who Are These People?
The proposed developers for the new Mueller
The two finalists for the gig of Mueller master developer are:
This real-estate behemoth, traded on the New York Stock Exchange, owns over 30 million square feet of commercial and residential rental property and enough raw land, it says, to build more than 40 million more. Its current showpiece project -- the one most like the New Mueller, though much more "urban" in style and scope -- is S.F.'s Mission Bay, a mixed-use complex surrounding the Giants' new Pacific Bell Park, built on what used to be the Southern Pacific railyard.
Catellus Development Inc., San Francisco
This proposed limited partnership includes D.R. Horton (parent company of Milburn Homes), JPI (apartments), Cousins Properties (office), Cencor Urban (retail, including the once-infamous Triangle Square), and the developers of the Avery Ranch master-planned community out west of town. Some of these partners (Horton, JPI, and Cousins in particular) are, like Catellus, monsters of the industry, though they've never worked together before. They've also lined up an impressive list of national "consultants," but they tout their experience with Austin issues and neighborhoods as a selling point.
