The Best-Laid Plans: Some of Intel's Unfinished Projects

A list of officially suspended projects

In addition to the partially constructed Intel building in Austin, Intel has suspended or interrupted numerous other building projects in recent months. While 20 or more Intel projects may have been delayed, interrupted, or abandoned, the company has officially announced the suspension of the following:

1. Planned office complex in Hillsboro, Ore. (JF-6): A three-story, 300,000-sq.-ft. research and development building, and a multilevel parking structure.

2. Office building and garage in Folsom, Calif. (FM-8): Construction at Folsom has been halted twice in three years. This 400,000-sq.-foot facility, designed for 1,000 employees, would have been the eighth building on a 214-acre suburban campus. Cost: $79 million (building); $17 mil-lion (garage). One more building is planned for the campus.

3. Office building & visitors center in Chandler, Ariz. (C-8): A 320,000-sq.-foot facility for 1,200 employees, including a 3,000-sq.-ft. visitors center and a 4,500-sq.-foot auditorium.

4. Factory addition in Hudson, Mass. (Mod 4): $250 million plant expansion suspended. A $1 billion tool installation remains in progress.

5. Factory extension in Leixlip, Ireland (Fab 24): $2 billion plant expansion. Intel Ireland employs 1,000 people, and says it intends eventually to complete this expansion project.
