  • Economist James Galbraith will speak on "Inequality: What Is to Be Done?" as part of the Working Stiff Journal Forum series at 7pm Friday, Feb. 11, at the AFL-CIO building, 11th and Lavaca.   • The UT Center for Women's Studies and the Austin Peace and Justice Coalition will sponsor a screening of Defending Our Lives: Combating the Myths About Domestic Violence, at 7pm on Tuesday, Feb. 15 in the Bass Lecture Hall in Sid Richardson Hall on the UT campus.   • East Austin leaders will host the first in a series of workshops on neighborhood issues including land use, transportation, and urban design, on Saturday, Feb. 12, from 1-5pm at the Cristo Rey Catholic Church, 2208 E. 2nd St. Call Marcos DeLeon at 480-0829 for more info.

  • The Alliance to Save Hyde Park will hold a public meeting, Tuesday, Feb. 15, 7pm, at the Hyde Park United Methodist Auditorium, 4001 Speedway. The Alliance is leading the fight against a five-story garage that Hyde Park Baptist Church wants to build on a residential street in the historic neighborhood. The agenda will include updates on the latest round of negotiations with the church, plus citizen input and how you can help.
