Triangle Property Design Contest
Fri., Aug. 15, 1997
The Chronicle will bestow modest prizes and fame, of course, when we print the winners. But don’t expect the developer to chuck its plans after we publish the results – this is purely a theoretical contest. The reward we expect to receive and share with the public will come from our readers, who will use their ingenuity and creativity to grapple with the question of what’s the best use for this destinedÐtoÐbeÐdeveloped area.
Judging
Contestants may compete in one or both of the following categories:
1. Fanciful designs: In an ideal world, what should be on this property? A
contest entry could be as simple as a single drawing or site plan, although any additional
materials are welcome and will be considered. You need not consider any financial
or political factors (though you may do so if you want). Entries will be judged on
aesthetic quality, creativity, and social utility.
2. Practical designs: These should fall into the realm of what is feasible
given the current conditions. Entries should include one or more drawings and/or
site maps, plus any other materials you think best illustrate your design’s advantages.
Feel free to include things like calculations of impervious cover, available square
footage, comparable property values and rental rates, income projections, etc. Judges
will consider economic and political viability, as well as the aesthetic considerations
listed above.
Judging will be by a ChronicleÐselected panel of designers, architects,
and developers.
