Greyhounds flash their Change of Pace immediately. They're now harmonizing. Not just that, either. They're layering – adding vocal effects and textures. There's production in the works since the local duo found time to be a band. 2014 debut for the label offshoot of legendary Memphis recording studio Ardent, Accumulator repackaged old material, songs produced while guitarist Andrew Trube and keyboardist Anthony Farrell slipped into studios on their off-days with JJ Grey & Mofro. Change of Pace produces 13 tracks made mostly when Greyhounds was their main focus. ("Cuz I'm Here," the slow-burning Farrell staple, gets a crystal-clear face-lift.) Of the new jams, few illustrate the benefits of ample production like "Gettin' Out Alive," which finds blaxploitation horns and back-and-forth lyrics supplanting Trube's guitar as the main vessel for riffs. Same goes for the edgy "For You" and "Before BP (The War Is on for Your Mind)," which Sly Stone could groove on. (CD release: Sat., May 28, Antone's)
