Texas Platters

Reviewed by Jim Caligiuri, December 4, 2015, Music

Mother Superior of the South Austin hippie crowd returns with an affable set of folk and blues. Masterfully assisted by guitarist Rich Brotherton, the singer continues to mine simple emotions with a big voice and a pen that never met a cliche it didn't find attractive. Gospel-flavored opener "Add It Up," a solemn reading of Donovan's "Catch the Wind," and the soft flow of "Texas Soulful Shuffle" demonstrate Atherton's adaptability, but her well-meaning songs come off unintentionally out of step.
