In 1967, Brooklyn-born Paul Oscher joined Muddy Waters' band, following in the footsteps of harp legends Little Walter and James Cotton (who also relocated locally). He was 17, and Waters' first Caucasian sideman. Forty-seven years later, the multi-instrumentalist took over Thursdays at Continental Club owner Steve Wertheimer's other South Congress juke joint, working with some of the area's best bluesmen when not on the road. "I'm in the deep blues sound," says Oscher. "That's what I like, that's what I play, and that's what I like listening to."
