Call it mad scientist-core. Detroit quartet Child Bite has been making distinct, sense-assaulting art-rock for nearly a decade now, singer Shawn Knight muttering angry gibberish over bubbling beakers, an undercurrent of glitched, evil electronic noise coming from somewhere in the dungeon. On sixth LP Monomania, these delinquents stir up the sort of chaos that doesn't leave much to the imagination. Guitars interpreting an apocalyptic swarm of bees ("The Nab Munch is On")? A two-minute hardcore blast that might, on the right days, actually drive you crazy ("Vapor in the Orphan Loop")? Fun, but not for the faint of heart, and maybe a tad insubstantial.
