Chalk Tape (Don Giovanni Records)

During a SXSW day party last year, Titus Andronicus singer Patrick Stickles followed up fellow New Jersey rock squad Screaming Females' breakneck set by calling chief screamer Marissa Paternoster and the trio's overfueled sound the perfect balance between immense pain and euphoric pleasure. Consider Chalk Tape reinforcement. Crafted conceptually through chalkboard wish lists rather than practice-room improvisational culls, the New Brunswick crew's second EP and seventh official release drops a jaded "Wrecking Ball" on seven unique songs, with breakneck pacers "Crushing the Kingdom" and "Poison Arrow" flattening landscapes for low-key middlemen "Bad Men" and "Into the Sun." The EP's closer "Green Vapors," a 1:47 blast of Nineties alt-rock, sounds stripped from A Giant Dog's Bone. (Sun., 6:55pm, Mohawk)
