Behind some ancient mystical aesthetic, Austin quartet Creationists levies unholy post-punk jams on its debut LP. Cut and paste the Greek script of the record's title into Google, and you'll get Holy Wisdom, plus images of a mosque in Turkey. Be assured, that's the only pretentious aspect of this vinyl release. Otherwise, these 11 tracks amount to a sonic pile-on of soapbox prose, reverb, and commanding three-chord sequences. A single structure remains constant throughout: An uptempo riff or progression begins the song, and without much deviation, Creationists ratchet up the volume, intensity, and, sometimes, instrumental layering into heavy patterns peaking at the last millisecond of the song. A distinctly psychedelic mix suits the album's artistic tone, but an overload of mid frequencies makes it hard for any one instrument to pop, especially the desperately shouted vocals, which only stand out when ganged up for spectacular chants like, "Turn the channel! Cut off the signal!" on death-disco "Thin Walls."
