Live at Wacken 2007: The Seventh Date of Blashyrkh (Nuclear Blast)

Judge and jury in essential black metal doc Until the Light Takes Us, Norwegian genre kings Immortal prove their heir-acy in little over an hour at Germany's metallurgic foundry, trinity-style: Abbath's chopping, motor-burn riffs and demon seed croak ("Tyrants"); Horgh's bullet belt beats; and Apollyon's low-end rototill. When Abbath sticks out his tongue on "Sons of Northern Darkness," Gene Simmons is already dialing his lawyer even before the singer starts swigging fuel from an animal horn and spitting fire on "Unholy Forces of Evil." The whole set's included on CD. (Immortal blazes BackStage Live in San Antonio, Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011.)
