Catching a Tiger (Fat Possum)The look Lissie Maurus gives from the cover of her full-length debut sums it up: She's a blonde waterfall of come-hither Southern beauty that might be ready to sock you one. Following last year's promising Why You Runnin' EP, Catching a Tiger evokes Neko Case's thousand-yard howl ("Bully") and Chan Marshall circa Moon Pix ("Little Lovin'"), but Maurus holds her own, as on mid-album standout "Stranger," whose girl-group trot is sweet and klutzy. When she repeats, "I'm sorry, I am not yours, I am mine," it transcends the barroom. There's a certain adult contemporary appeal to Maurus, but she's at her best when she gets playful. She's ripe to land a song in an Apple commercial and hit it big, but you can't fault her. The girl knows how to make you look. (12:15pm, Zync Card stage)
