ColdTowne Comedy Hour

5:30pm, Stage 2

The Chronicle approached ColdTowne Theater about the Fun Fun Fun Fest lineup in hopes of answering the question on every hipster's mind: "What's funny about music?" The answer, after exhaustive research on the part of our crack team of unpaid interns: Absolutely nothing is funny about music. There is, however, a wealth of fascinating "infotainment" available on the Internet, enough to keep some of you "trivia heads" out there embroiled in passionate debate for hours. Here's a quick rundown of some of the fascinating information we stumbled across.

Did you know? Bad Brains frontman H.R. was once arrested for nearly killing a man during a performance with a mic stand in 1995. He also designed all the set-pieces for the movie Alien: Resurrection.

Did you know? Philadelphia punk pioneers the Dead Milkmen are considered satire, a form of art where human or individual vices are held up to censure by means of ridicule, ideally with the intent to bring about improvement. Move over, 19th century American satirist Ambrose Bierce.

Did you know? The Cynics own their own record label, Get Hip Records, and are in part credited with the resurgence of garage rock in the United States. Other famous cynics include Henry David Thoreau, Groucho Marx, and Wesley Snipes.

Did you know? The band Deerhoof is often credited with making music.

Did you know? Hip-hop group Atmosphere hails from Minneapolis, and its lyrics travel at three-tenths of a kilometer per second. If performed on Mars, vocalist Slug's raps would fly into space due to the planet's low escape velocity.

The ColdTowne Comedy Hour features sketch and stand-up from Ramirez and Gilstrap, Andrea Grimes, Honest to God, Seth Cockfield, Jeremy Neal, Kerri Lendo, and Bryan Gutmann.
